This industry capstone subject provides students with an opportunity to undertake a significant ICT project in a professional context. This experience will enable students to develop skills that enhance prospects for building their future career.
After the completion of ITW601 or equivalent, this advanced Work Integrated Learning (WIL) subject further expands upon the students’ learning, allowing them to see first-hand how these learnings translate into real-world practice.
Students draw upon the ethical, practical, and theoretical knowledge and skills they have gathered over the duration of their study to successfully complete their industry placement and projects. They will be mentored through the projects with complementary practice-based expertise and will be required to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
It is recommended students continue with the same option as chosen in the pre-requisite subject ITW 601:
Option 1: Industry PlacementStudents are offered the opportunity to undertake an industry placement at an organisation in a suitable ICT position. This encourages them to build long-term relationships with the tech industry and provides an opportunity for them to work with and learn from people who may end up becoming colleagues, managers or mentors. It also provides a context in which to enhance their communication skills and work collaboratively in a professional context. Students will undertake a series of industry-led tasks that are relevant to their field of study in order to understand the key concepts of working in and managing a professional technology team with emphasis placed on the operation of the environment.
Option 2: Industry ProjectStudents respond to criteria set within the context of an industry project. An understanding of research methodologies appropriate to professional practice and the documentation of personal creative investigation will be explored. Students will also further investigate and examine entrepreneurial and commercial opportunities through collaborative work practice. Students draw upon the philosophical, practical, methodological, theoretical and technical tools they have utilised over the duration of their degree to successfully complete an industry project. Students are mentored through this project with complementary practice-based expertise. Projects must pertain to the field of ICT. The subject is delivered from a cross discipline perspective and draws on both specialised and common industry practices. All projects must include evidence of critical analysis, reflexive and reflective practice and social engagement, in addition to the use of contemporary industry standard tools and techniques.
